PEO Chapter MZ to meet Feb. 9
PEO Chapter MZ will meet Monday, Feb.9 , at 11:30 for lunch at the Pizza Ranch. The program will be presented by Frieda Davis.
Ice Fisheree Cancelled, Ice Fishing Clinic still scheduled
Due to unsafe ice conditions the Ice Fisheree at Rodgers Park has been cancelled for Saturday January 31st. The Ice Fishing Clinic that was scheduled to be held from 9am to 11am on Saturday will still be held for people interested in learning more about the sport of ice fishing. We will go over fish identification, safety, fish habitat, and fishing regulations.
Pink Night: Vikettes to welcome survivors during Feb. 3 game
The team that first brought area breast cancer survivors together a few years ago is inviting them back again next week.
The annual Pink Night for the Vinton-Shellsburg Vikette basketball team will take place this Tuesday, Feb. 3. T-shirt sales and other fund-raisers will help the Breast Cancer Survivors of Benton County to help other women fight the disease and also help area women through the VGH Gifts of Hope Fund, which provides free breast care services for those who cannot afford them.

There will also be an Ice Fishing Clinic from 9am-11am.
Concessions will be available on site.
There will also be three raffles with great prizes. A Clam Ice House and a Vexilar FL 18 fish finder are just some of the great prizes.
Shellsburg Friends of the Library Chili Supper set for Feb. 8
Shellsburg Friends of the Library Annual Chili and Chicken Noodle Soup Supper will take place Sunday
February 8, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Shellsburg Legion Hall. The menu includes homemade chili and chicken noodle soups, grilled cheese, relishes, salads, fruit and desserts.
Veterans benefit Pancake Breakfast Reminder
On Saturday, January 31st, the Vinton-Shellsburg FFA Chapter will be hosting their second Veterans Benefit Pancake Breakfast. The event will take place in the Vinton-Shellsburg High School commons area at 7 am until 11 am.
The Veterans Benefit Pancake Breakfast will be a free will donation event with all proceeds going to the Benton County Veterans Assistance Program.
Breast Cancer Survivors To meet Tuesday, February 3-Note Change in time!
Breast Cancer Survivors will meet Tuesday, February 3 at 5:00 p.m. for dinner and conversation at Windsor Manor in the dining room. (Free will donation for the meal.) We will then meet at 6:30 at the HS for the girl's basketball game where they will recognize breast cancer survivors. Come to one or both! Please note change in meeting time.
Iowa Cover Crops Conference to be held in West Des Moines
West Des Moines, IA – The Soil and Water Conservation Society (SWCS), Conservation Districts of Iowa (CDI), and the Midwest Cover Crops Council (MCCC) will hold the Iowa Cover Crops Conference on February 17-18, 2015, at the Sheraton Hotel, in West Des Moines, Iowa.
Conference highlights include:
Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey will share his personal use of cover crops in his own farm operation.
VPRD Bingo returns this weekend
The Vinton Parks & Recreation Department is excited about hosting another great season of BINGO at the Vinton Skate & Activity Center. Our first event date is this Sunday, January 25 from 5-7 PM and the other two will take place on February 22 and March 29. The best part is that it is a completely free event as well!
The last several years we have had a tremendous turnout with participants ranging in age from 2 all the way through 100! So needless to say, this is an all ages event and everyone is welcome to attend.
VS Band Soup Supper set for this Friday, Jan. 23
Come out and support the VS Band program and boys basketball teams this Friday, Jan. 23 and VSHS High School. The band will be hosting their annual Soup Supper while the basketball teams compete against Clear Creek Amana. Serving starts at 5 p.m. On the menu is all you can eat chili, homemade chicken noodle soup, veggies and pie.
